You may have written a winning resume that attracts the employer in the first glance. Even then it happens that we are unable to get a call for our dream job. No matter how suitably qualified you may be for the job but there will be many others equally well qualified. The thing that prefers one candidate over the other is how the interview was landed. Dress for Success:
It probably goes without saying that you should look smart and presentable. Remember first impression is the last impression. You may be smart enough and highly qualified for the job but if your appearance is not up to par then most likely it will sour the deal.
Do not overdo your perfume/cologne.
Pay attention to the details such as polished shoes, hair, accessories, trimmed nail, etc.
Be on Time:
Never be late. If you can't make it to the interview on time then obviously the interviewer will expect you not able to make it to work on time. Allow yourself plenty of time to get to the interview, so that you arrive at reception slightly early. It is a better idea to reach the interview place ten minutes ahead of time.
Do not be Nervous:
Being nervous about job interviews is normal and keeps you on your toes. Having a deep breath immediately before the interview can help you calm your nerves.
Offer Firm Handshake:
Always offer a firm handshake both in the beginning of interview and at the end. Smile and shake hands firmly with all the interviewers when you meet them.
Be Yourself:

First of all you should have your resume professionally done and up to date. You should try to find as much as you can about the company in terms of what it does, its current problems and priorities.
Develop a list of your own career successes and the greatest challenges you have overcome. People remember stories better than specific details so tell a story about your successes. Provide specific dollars, figures and percentages. Never lie or make claims that you cannot substantiate. Focus on how you develop positive working relationships and the action steps you take to build them. Demonstrate your ability to help the organization achieve its goals.
Go over the job description thoroughly and make a note of any questions you would like to ask at the interviewer. Take the time to consider any questions that you may be asked during your interview. Prepare answers to those about your educational background, character traits, management ability, suitability for the job, salary history and requirements, experience and hobbies. Make sure that you present yourself in the best possible light.
Rehearse for Success:
It is a god idea to conduct a mock interview with a friend, mentor or in front of a mirror. Pose your facial expressions and body language as you are giving real interview. Identify the mistakes and then work to improve your performance. Use direct action words as part of your vocabulary. Avoid simply answering 'Yes' and 'No' to questions and try to get a conversation going. Always give yourself time to rehearse for success.
Be Confident:

Never give negative remarks about your current or past employers or managers. Leave questions about pay and holidays until last.

Follow Up:
Remember to thank the interviewers for their time before you leave and send a thank-you note, strategic letter or e-mail immediately after you finish the interview.

Once you are done with the interview then ponder over how well you did. Write down what you were asked and how you responded. Think about what is the thing that you can improve to increase your chances of getting the job.
